Here is Kermit Weeks, owner of Fantasy of Flight, giving a demo of his reproduction Fokker D-VIII. The rotary engine was very loud and sounded authentic. The clouds of castor oil scented smoke discouraged people from standing directly behind the aircraft as it started up.

German's were simply amazing; designed and built a cool little plane and
they were insightful enough to put an indication on it as to with way is
flew!
