Hi;

We're building hand controls for the disabled as part of the Freedom's
Wings program in Canada, and the designer/engineer has specified the
following epoxy potted insets:

Three NAS1834-5-750 Substitute TYE2003, SL603, D1834 or
AEP1034-5-750
Three NAS1832-5-16 Substitute TYE2002, SL601, D1832 or AEP1036N-5-500
Eighteen NAS1836-3-20

The last one is easy to get, but the first two do not seem to be in
stock anywhere. I've tried TYE's distributors, Interfast, Wescoair
and Genuine Aircraft Hardware and MANY local and internet suppliers.
we are into triplle digit e-mails now and hours on the phone. Most
suppliers seem to have inventory systems taking them right back
through the supply chains to the manufacturers, who are quoting 16
weeks delivery, and I haven't even told them I only need a few.

I am hoping that someone on this list works for an aviation company
that uses these parts or parts from a supplier that carries these
parts. Are there any sitting on a shelf somewhere? Can someone
leverage thier suppliers to find them?

Other than final Transport Canada approval of the "as-bilt" drawings,
it's the only thing in the way of setting this done.

Thanks!

Martin

http://www.nor-calsupply.com/ is a good place to try, best bet is to
call them at the number listed...

Simplest solution: Get the designer/engineer to change to a more
common part, or get a different designer/engineer.

When I design with NAS hardware, it is because I have bags and bags of
them on hand and I'm trying to use them up. All other hardware is COTS
items from Aircraft Spruce or McMaster-Carr, or can be made from
common materials according to simple drawings.

Thanks, Bob K.

Yes, on the face of it that makes sense, however, the designer is
doing this on a pro-bono basis, and he's very busy with no time to
entertain changes.

It would be great if we could use COTS parts, but we must use aircraft
parts with complete traceability and manufacturer certs to meet the
approval of the engineer and Transport Canada.

If we could build it COTS it would have been done 2 years ago. It's
extremely frustrating.

Potted inserts are not common COTS items, however, the designer should
have no problem substituting with a commercial (Think Rosan) style
insert.

Have your designer contact me, I'll hook him up with parts that are
available yet meet commercial/mil specs.

I tried these folks for NAS replacement bolts for Pawnee wheels, very
reasonable when I told them I needed 1000's of similar part numbers at
work. I deal with a lot of vendors, these guys are so good I had them
added to my companies approved buyer list. Anyone that has stock on
long titanium bolts is a vendor to remember.

Links below show a large number of records for the two NAS numbers you
had problems with. Call Tim, he can help with P&D quote:

Hi;

Thae designer does have a problem substituting non-aircraft parts.
<sigh>

Do you have any documentation for the substitutes you know about?

Martin, did you ever find a supply for your NAS1834 inserts? We manufacture all NAS1832 - NAS1834 inserts and can do custom lengths and sizes.
