We got two of them off the bombing range at Edwards AFB (Muroc Army
Airfield) and were preparing one for static display
at The Flight Test Center headquarters, and the second one was going to a
private museum in So Cal for return to flight
status. I worked a little on the one designated for static display. Anyone
know what happened to those two? I don't remember
them being the YP models, we just called them "P" models. They were pretty
shot full of holes from the bombing range.
It was interesting when we were to take out all the fuel tanks. They were of
the "self-sealing" tanks of the day. The buna (?)
rubber had expanded so that the wing tanks were almost solid rubber (no fuel
capacity at all). I guess they may have had fuel
in them at one time or mother nature took over when they were filled with
holes.

My story and I'm stickin' to it.
