Just announced on the local news tonight.
The airspace around Las Vegas to include North Las Vegas (VGT) and
Henderson (HND) will be closing early on wednesday, they said it was
closing to all General Aviation and helocopters at 9pm and will remained
closed untill sometime thursday afternoon. Not sure of the exact time to
reopen thursday, but anyone flying into vegas or out of vegas those days
make sure you get the info from FSS.

there is nothing on AOPA yet...
This is simply ludicrous..
so much for those that want to go home early on Thurs.. or don't party Weds
but always start off the new year with a flight.

It was on the 5pm news tonight, they said 10 mile radius. That would be about
the radius of the LAS class B, they said it includes HND and VGT
it will be on the 11pm news again tonight..I am picking up the wifes brother
wednesday morning from phoenix, they are not leaving till saturday so I will be
able to get in aand out in time.

Actually the LAS Class B goes out to 20nm in some areas.. and farther in
others..
I heard that the restriction is only 10nm and 9pm to 3am on NYEve.. that
will cover most of the strip to downtown... so we shall wait and see if it
really gets NOTAM'd... military and Commercial at McCarran only.

According to the TV news, for whatever that is worth, the airspace is
being closed by the Governor or the Mayor (I forget which). Somebody
there taking lessons from Chicago?
Of course, that's TV news reporting and usually has no bearing on
fact.

According to:

there's no threat. But according to:
http://www.fox21.com/Global/story.asp?S=1581043
the airspace was closed. What the hell is going on??

There's obviously been 'intel' received about threats to LV over the
holidays. I think the intel was originally regarding threats to NY, LA, and
LV. Must be something more specific about LV spurring this - I remember Tom
Ridge saying that when specific threats are recieved, local authorities will
be specifically informed and action taken.

ya thats what CNN said this morning, till 3am, I could have swore local news
last night said it would be closed untill around noon tho, but they could have
got it wrong of course.
Ya the class B spreads out quite a bit, on the west side, where I usually come
in from california, LAS always tells ne to stay 10 DME west which puts me right
on the edge of the class B.
I think we need another GA airport in the area, basically only HND and VGT are
good for flying into the vegas area.

we do... it's called Jean...
but not really great for LAS visitors..
It spreads out more to the NE and East than it does to the West and South

Sr Leadership trying to present a false sense of security to the unknowing
public.
There are already standing TFRs limiting flight over outdoor events.. this
added restriction will be mostly within surface Class B airspace, but does
cover two satellite airports in the Valley.
