in todays chicago sun-times a column by some outdoors reporter who almost
cums in his pants over the closing of meigs field.

I was able to get the story -- the jerk doesn't even carry a byline (or
it is missing). He ought to apply his talents to digging ditches, rather
than writing for a newspaper.

It sure made ME mad. The writer proclaims: "Forget the nonsense spieled by the
Meigs propagandists. Airplane owners earn significantly more than the median
income (about $20,000 more, as I figure)."

Whoa, nelly! The median income, which includes all the janitors and
burger-flippers in Chicago, is 20 grand lower than the income of the average
person who flies? We must all be employed, and manage our money responsibly so
that 20 grand is available to pay our bills and spend a little on flying. What
a bunch of undeserving pilot-heads.
I, for one, am a bottom-of-the-food-chain pilot who scrapes up 70 bucks before
I get to go fly for one hour, and joined EAA just so I could give rides to
kids. And I'd hoped to plan a flight to Meigs someday with my flying partner
to add it to the delightful destinations I've enjoyed, after my years of study
and practice.

This bozo could go to Cabela's gun room and pick out a $3000 shotgun, and spend
as much as some of us do on our entire training. He probably spends hundreds
of hours sitting in a deer stand or duck blind or fish house waiting to blast
away at some wildlife, but reckons I'm in the same league as Harrison Ford
because I'd like one island preserved for a landing strip instead of a smelly
host of tobacco-stained carp fishermen.

I'd rant on, but he doesn't have a "email to the editor" function.

Makes me wonder if it's even for real. Normally a news paper gives
credit (or blame) for virtually any article even if it only says
"staff". He's ceretainly not one the brighter reporters.

Perhaps this person is unaware that Northerly Island didn't even EXIST until
the then Mayor of Chicago decided to HAVE IT CREATED to house a lakefront
airport.

Then again, perhaps the author is merely a Daley cronie.

Don't buy into his class warfare arguments. Airplane owners on average are
also significantly older than the median age.

Let's see how this guy likes it when there's a casino on the property.

This gives me an idea. I *just* realized that I am directly descended from
the Meigs Nation, and that my people have had their ancient worship site
seized and desecrated by the Chicago city government. I'm betting that many
of you are also native members of this tribe. We should demand the return
of our land, and claim sovereign rights for all our people. Then we should
build our casino and use it to fund the very expensive "flying rituals" that
our ancient beliefs demand of us. <g>

Amen -- and may his fishing lines forever hence land nothing but gar and
carp!
