Anyone fly on the 1st. ?

I just had to fo fly. Temp. at 52 degrees F--did four glider tows and took the
last glider flight up for a little acro. Felt good and a good way to start off
a new year. mac

Macky... first flight up in the Grob 103 for about 30 min of weak ridge..
then pulled 2 hours (10 tows) in the Pawnee.. and then a sunset flight in
the LS-4 to the wave..

A great way to start the new year!

I had a 172 booked all day; I was planning on flying to Hope (CYHE - about
90 minutes away) with my brother & his girlfriend to visit a friend of
hers. Hope was NOTAM'd closed because of snow on the runway, though - no
snow clearing equip. at that grass runway!

So we did a shorter flight, 30 min each way to Nanaimo, just to get off
the ground. Nice flight - first time I've flown while there was snow on
the ground!

One amusing equipment failure: the Cessna OAT thermometer in GSN seems to
have died; it was reading 30+ C all the time today. The needle slipped up
to over 50 just after we landed at home again... It wasn't more than 5 C
on the ramp, and colder aloft...

I hear ya! We flew a couple of good friends over to the river boat in
Prairie du Chien, WI. It was an uneventful flight, although we ran into
some unpredicted low ceilings over the Mississippi River valley. (Didja
ever ask yourself why we listen to flight service at all in the winter?)

The ceilings didn't bother us -- they were more than legal VFR -- but under
those clouds we hit a bit of mist which concerned us some, given the 28
degree temps at altitude. It turned out to be nothing -- no ice -- but did
provide for a couple of tense "should we turn around?" minutes...

The flight was silky smooth (good, as it was the woman's first flight in a
small plane), and our friends won more than we lost -- which is about all
you can ask for on a river boat!

All in all, a great way to start the new year!

Yup,the dog and me took Fat Albert for a run right at dawn... He grunted
and groaned a bit, but finally lifted his corpulence off the cement... A

I've been sick as a dog and won't be flying for a couple of days yet. Not
that the weather has been very cooperative, with rain mixed with snow.

Just a routine evening flight to return home from NYE festivities. Leftover
Champagne, late Chistmas gifts from friends, and a soundly sleeping
passenger. The Signature ramp at CLT was deserted, the traffic light, the
weather warm and the winds calm.

Twinkling city lights gave way to darkened countryside as our runway lights
came into view. I announced our intent to an empty sky with the hope that
my neighbor would open the hangar door. All 3 wheels kissed the grass, then
the ground. The hangar lights were on.

Yep, beautiful day down here.

My buddy Robert & I went over to Diamondhead airport in Mississippi just
for the hell of it. 66Y is a little hole in the woods right next to
I-10, just west of Gulfport. 100LL was $2.40/gal.

I did a dual cross country starting at 8:00 local time in the morning.
Kinda of early but the excitement got me awake & going. Some clouds
about 2000' above us but good visibility. I was surprised that there
was hardly any other traffic - I saw 2 other planes all day.

Yep. Took off in 2003 and returned in 2004.

I ferried a Pitts Special from Homestead, FL to Montgomery, NY. Left FL on the
31st and landed in NY on the 1st. I spent New Years Eve at a Super 8 in Mrytle
Beach, SC eating delivery pizza and drinking Dr. Pepper.
