Just added three new movies to our Aviation Videos webpage, for your viewing
pleasure...

Check 'em out at http://www.alexisparkinn.com/aviation_videos.htm

Also added one new sound file -- a Cherokee fly-over! :-)

Thanks -- I just noticed that myself. I'll have to fix that tomorrow.

On another (somewhat related) subject, I've just spent the last hour trying
to configure my home computer to play my own danged video/audio files
correctly.

I finally got so frustrated that I have completely removed "RealPlayer" from
my system. That damned program had interwoven itself so thoroughly into my
Windows XP OS that I was simply unable to change the default player to
Windows Media Player, no matter what setting I changed!

It would *say* it was set to WMP, and show the correct icon -- but it would
continually try to open the files with RealPlayer. And when the file failed
to play, it would lock up I.E.

What a pain in the butt. Now the files play, but some are opening
"windowed" (the way I'd like), while others of the same file type are
opening inside I.E., which I don't want. This, of course, makes no sense
to me, since the file names and type associations are the same, and I can
find no setting that would change the way it plays to something different
with SOME "mpegs" but not others....

*sigh* Computers can drive you NUTS. ;-)

'Sup Jayman,

Do this: First, swear to nevah install Real Player again.

Then, go to your control panel

Open Internet

Click the Advanced tab.

Scroll down to the Multimedia heading then uncheck "Play Videos in Web
Pages" and you should be all set.

Later!

I think the latest quick time player did the same to me.

That's no drive, it's a short putt. :-)

Great discoveries are not announced with "Eureka!". What's usually said is
"Hummmmm... That's interesting...."

Tried that. Some of them (B-52 and Airbus crash videos) still play as a
full-screen webpage -- the kind where you have to click the "back" button in
order to get back to where you came from.

Others play normally, in a Windows Media Player window of its own -- NOT an
I.E. window.

Any ideas here?

There is also an alternative out for real player but not sure the url
(thanks screen savers)

This one is for quick time

http://www.ntcompatible.com/story23516.html

"QuickTime Alternative 1.22 will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov,
..qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime
Player. As a bonus, Internet Explorer will play all QuickTime movies that
are embedded in a webpage. You do need a media player that is capable of
playing QuickTime files. The included Media Player Classic supports it and
works very well. The QuickTime Browser plugin supports Internet Explorer,
Opera, Netscape and Mozilla. The QuickTime plugins include iPIX and
QuickTimeVR".

Pat Thronson (I have not tried it)

Second vow to learn about spyware. Real Player is just one of a
ever-growing group of this crap. Yes, it does "intertwine" itself in your
PC and soon, just as Jay noticed, you can't get rid of the thing!

Fortunately, I have the services of the professional computer "genius" (read
son) who works daytime in the IT department of a large stockbroker, and
evenings (with the proper motivation) as family computer service tech. This
service usually costs us a home-cooked dinner or similar. A real bargain!

Was disappointed though when he informed me over the holidays that a
complete reinstall would be required. Now the PC is back up about 75%. We
will be installing some spyware checkers very soon.
