View Full Version : Experience with Avionics West???

Does anyone have any experience good or bad ordering from Avionics West?
They have a lower price on the Lightspeed 20XL2 than any other place I've
seen so far, but as some of the stuff on the page looks a little outdated
(reviews for products not in production etc..) I am a little nervous just
ordering on the fly. Anyone have comments on quality and speed of service?
Customer service? Returns? I looked at resellerratings.com, but they were
not listed... any comments welcome...

I used them for several items like headsets and handhelds a few years
ago and was happy with the service and prices. I don't know if they're
still a good deal, but they definitely were then...

I've ordered some panel-mount avionics from them.

Service was as expected. I sure wouldn't hesitate to order something like
a headset from them.

Ordered a GPS, headsets and some accessories and was satisfied with the
service.

I've written them with avionics questions that they were thorough in
answering. They contribute monthly to the Cessna Pilots Association
with pretty informative articles. They sound pretty knowledgeable about the
things they work on and sell. Hope that helps somewhat.

I bought a store demo GPS from them a few years back. Turned out
later I was also drawn for their (at the time) monthly give-away and
got an aviation receiver for free. I believe I later bought a headset
from them. Good folk, were very friendly to me.

I have purchased headsets from them and a portable gps. Fast delivery
and best price I could find. Since then I have had them do a
complete panel upgrade on my plane and was extremely happy with their
thoroughness and customer service.

I've been a customer of Avionics West for four years. Excellent
service, every single time. Tom Rogers, the owner, runs a tight ship,
and will take the time to answer questions and explain things.

I can recommend it without any reservations.

Note: no kickbacks, just a happy customer.

Yes, I bought a Yaseu handheldd from Avionics West. I called up to
confirm that it was new and ready to ship; got a cheery woman who
assured me it was. I said okay, I'll go back online and order it. She
said no need, just give me the information, so I did. It arrived in
the customary time and was indeed in its original packing, all
warranties applicable, etc. I'm still using it on a weekly basis (it's
my only radio).

(Before I ordered, I asked here for experiences with Avionics West,
and did get a couple, both positive.)

Sounds like I'm the only one that ever had a problem with Avionics West.
Ordered a 4 place portable intercom from them after reading his evaluation,
good price, prompt delivery, but wouln't run more than 39 minutes on a set
of batteries and was constantly blowing fuses. They told me where to send it
for repairs (manufacturer). Sent it in twice, still not fixed; the people at
Avionics West promised to send me a new one (exchange) but they never did
(that was almost a year ago.) Frustrating.

I'm in OZ. Bought a GPS196 from them and didn't like it. Exchanged it for
a GPS III Pilot, they credited my account, no problems. Only hassel was the
three way shipping US-OZ OZ-US US-OZ - costly, but that was my fault. Dealt
with Kathi Pfifer (sp), I think she's still there - pleasant and efficient,
I'd have no problems buying from them again.

Cheers,
Kevin

Barb,

What was the intercom - I was looking at the DRE 404e after reading their
report???

That's exactly the one I bought, after reading that report. Still have it.
It still runs on batteries 15-30 minutes. Variable amount of time using the
cigarette lighter adapter, which blows the fuse in it pretty regularly,
usually at an inopportune time. When the unit is running, it's excellent. I
suspect I just got a lemon. The manufacturer insists there's nothing wrong
with it, won't replace it. Avionics West said they would, but they didn't.
Frustrating.
