Found this photo lurking in a HDD, but no related info. Any of you chaps
know what this was all about ?

Well... I believe that this F2H from the Coral Sea landed on this other
carrier by error (fouled up)... Sailors don't want to assume the fact
that the pilot is from the Navy, pretending that navigation errors are
only due to Air Force pilots. They send the "parcel" back via mail to
VF-62 aboard the USS Coral Sea :)
(If not completely true, the idea is there)

The Navy has a tradition of defacing aircraft which land on the wrong
carrier. That is probably what happened here.
