Lange TE system

An excellent article by Pete Harvey regarding flying the
Antares 23 at Uvalde WGC includes the following:

"One of the most surprising factors was the Lange total
energy system. In Texas, the thermals were fast bubbles of
strong lift - fast, but very small. With our high cruise speeds,
it was absolutely essential to pull immediately and positively
into the thermal and for this, the total energy was essential.
I have to say that the Antares has the best TE I have ever
flown in, with negligible ‘stick thermal’ even when converting
from 220kph to 100kph in a zoom climb. I don’t want to go
back to normal systems ever again!"

Do they still make an 18M? Just before I bought my new glider this summer I emailed these guys and the US Rep for info and no one answered. I ended up with a brand X.

Certainly, they are cranking out 18m, especially as the
excellent sustainer system is (finally) about done.
The sustainer starts fast and has very good climb, no
diving required, no problems with motor exceeding redline
during diving starts and cutting off as in certain brands.

Of course the 20E with 18m tips is also a fantastic option.

Thanks, I thought the name looked familiar. And thanks for the link. It did not explain the TE system but it was a good read. I talked to several other factory Reps and actually ended up with a clean used ship. I now have two acquaintances with 20E's and I will try you again if I ever decide to upgrade.

Interesting article by Peter Harvey, top-level competitor and now
president of the BGA (UK).

As an Antares 20E owner (the first design), I am also impressed by how
well the TE is working in my 7 years old sailplane. Being an electric
self launcher, it is fitted with the standard pneumatic switch (tail
probe vs. fuselage static) wich operates automatically as the pylon is
extended.
I would have expected a switch to introduce potential leaks in the TE
line. I must say, it is still a perfectly compensated TE system, which
is probably one of the main contributors to my thermalling and gliding
skills.

Though the text written by PH may induce the false deduction that an
innovative system was installed, I believe this is just a standard TE
system, perfectly layed out, built, and tuned.
