Dan Reagan and John Lubon covered about 800KM straight out on thermals from Caesar Creek, Ohio to Blairstown, New Jersey yesterday. I have to believe these are the longest straight out thermal flights ever made east of the Mississippi. Anyone know differently?

David Noyes did nearly 1000 km from Marion OH almost to Cape Cod. Must've been 15+ years ago. He wrote it up in Soaring. Pretty sure it was on an April 15th. So similar conditions.

David Noyes' flight was on April 16, 1994. Article in Soaring in the Jan 1995 issue. A good read by a great pilot. And very good friend. RIP.

Henry retting flew ~850km from Boca raton Florida to win the Barringer in 2008. Jerome Trowbridge did 766 km from Boca Raton in 1974, also a Barringer winner.
Bravo to John and Dave for great flights from Ohio. It has been a good year already for free distance flights

Dave...make that Dan. Jeesh.
Just for the record, David Noyes' 1994 flight was 1012 km in 7.1 hours for an average speed of 142 kph or 89 mph.

Thanks for reminding us of this spectacular flight. The first place I looked was the SSA Records section, and for some reason this flight wasn't listed. I guess I vaguely remember reading it at the time, now that you mentioned it.
