View Full Version : APIS motorglider problem

May 16th 13, 04:40 AM
Has anyone with an APIS motorglider had the unfortunate issue of having the cable that connects to the spring loaded prop inter-lock bracket let go, allowing the roller to ride on the flange of the prop hub?

A local APIS has had that very problem and unbeknownst to the pilot the cable or the locking bolt let go and the end result was the roller disintegrating and damage to the flange of the flywheel while the engine was running during a climb out.

Our issue with this damage is two-fold. One is getting parts from the manufacturer, the second is how to release the tension on the drive belt to allow the flywheel to be removed. The maintenance manual offers no hints.

Any help, leads, contacts or spare parts from a damage APIS greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Sorry to here of your misfortune.

You can contact Pipistrelle who now build the Apis but with a different engine installation. A complete swap may be necessary.

There was a builder in Dallas, Omri Kalinsky who sold his engine parts in favor of installing a jet engine. I don't know if the buyer might still have those parts.
