Hi I'm not a pilot but I'm thinking about purchasing some of these
light for my brother that is a pilot. My question is what do you think
of this light as a pilot stand point for IFR flying? Do you think this
light would be light enough for clipping onto a hat visor or something
else he flies a C172. My brother rents or flies a company plan and
most times uses there headset. What is the best light for this
purpose. Any other recommendations? Thanks

Rod MI,

No, I wouldn't recommend this light for flying. I bought one for my car
flashlight, and while it's very bright (possibly too bright for a cockpit,
even with the red lense), the bulbs don't last very long. I've gone through
two bulbs already, and the batteries don't last long either.

I think one of the LED flashlights would be much better, especially
considering the bulb reliability and battery consumption...
