Just how long is the cab of a pickup truck?

A student towing a banner?
One of them thangs that make you (and the FAA) go, "Hmmm."

Course a quick check of landings pilot database turned up a Glenn Meleen
who's CFI. Could be a coincidence but that last name is not too common and
it's the only Mellen in the records.

I presume that he meant student at ERAU. The "student" could be a
junior or senior with a commercial ticket.

Remove "2PLANES" to reply.

Not really. It's quite possible to have a commercial rating and still
be a student at Embry-Riddle (which is what the article actually
said).

Mine is an extended cab Nissan, and the roof is a bit over four feet long.

No need to presume. The article clearly states that the pilot is a
student at Embry-Riddle, not that he is a student pilot.
While journalists often get aviation facts wrong, this is plainly a
case of the reader not being able to comprehend what was written.

Theoretically, wouldn't a moving truck's cab provide an unlimited length
landing area?

As long as the truck is moving at the same speed as the plane. I
remember seeing an airshow stunt that had a Cub or Champ landing on a
wooden platform mounted on top of a truck, then taking off again.
