I suspect that a repair I did recently on the TE probe on my DG 800B
didn't work. So it's time to get a replacement. My factory probe is
8mm but the end that fits into the receptacle has a small reduced
diameter section (4mm) that must fit into a reduced diameter hole
inside the receptacle. My previous gliders didn't have this smaller
section. So my question is, does any replacement probe have to have
this arrangement, or can I just plug in an 8mm probe if it seals
properly?. I'd like to get it right cause these things aren't cheap.

These are two concentric tubes with different pressures in them, aren' they? Hence "double probe"? Mine has three concentric tubes, or a triple probe. Static, pitot, and suction. Depending on what is hooked up to what, putting a single tube in there might give you some interesting instrument readings....

You can adapt 8mm multiple type probe installation
to single 8mm TE probe via joining existing 2-3 hoses outputs together via T-piece(s).
But do simple leak test on the ground before flight testing to avoid "interesting" instrument readings...

But you will have only a single probe system then (probably suction) and he is starting with a double probe...fine if nothing is connected to static or pitot.
