...and the sun doesn't shine in Canada! Winter snow is common in Arizona above about 3,000 feet elevation and Flagstaff at over 7,000 feet gets plenty.

A bit more info: The shot was taken on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. It
was so impressive a cap cloud that I pulled off the road to get the picture.
Notice the lennies to the east (left) of the mountain.

I haven't heard about gliding around Flagstaff, but, from the roads, it
looks like it could be quite good. Flying north would quickly get you over
the Grand Canyon with easy access to Cedar Breaks, Parowan, and points
north.

I attempted that once on a soaring safari with a ground launch at Holbrook,
AZ. The plan was to fly west to Flagstaff, then north to Heber City, UT,
and back to Parowan. A front stopped me over the Meteor Crater and I was
unable to proceed any further. After three attempts to penetrate the front,
I retreated to Winslow, AZ (where I stood on the corner).

Did you see any fine sights?

I've been flying the Grand Canyon area from Triangle Airpark, just Southeast of Las Vegas for a few years. My experience has been that the Flagstaff area overdevelops frequently. It's a little drier North of there, near the canyon. The lift is strong like the great basin and a lot of fun. Yesterday looked like a good day for a triangle around the canyon. Unfortunately I was in the work plane.

It's often a struggle from Triangle until getting to the Music Mountains near the Grand Canyon where the lift gets really good.

Cliff Hilty has a lot more experience in Northern Arizona than I do and would be good to talk to if you want the fly the area.
