The inaugural service of the Irish Airline Aer Lingus was provided by a
DH.84 Dragon, registration EI-ABI, named Iolar, which means "Eagle" in the
Gaelic Irish language.

On 27 May 1936, Aer Lingus made its maiden flight from Baldonnel Aerodrome
in Dublin to Bristol (Whitchurch airfield) in the UK. A six-seater De
Havilland Dragon named 'Iolar' (Eagle) carried just five passengers across
the Irish Sea. The airline celebrated its 75th Anniversary in May 2011 and
today carries over 10 million passengers each year to almost 70 destinations
across Ireland, the UK, Continental Europe and the USA.
