I recently downloaded the new Golden Eagle Flight Prep software from the
CSC Duats folks (www.flightprep.com), and have to say, while it's got some
nice features, it's mostly a disappointment. On the positive side, the
graphics are nice and the vertical profile with the MEAs is a good feature.

On the negative side, it's big and slow to launch and slow to update. But
my biggest complaint, (unless I'm doing something wrong) is that it doesn't
transfer a user-defined route from the graphical flight planning window
into the DUATS flight planner. When you pull up the online flight planner
and select user-defined route, it doesn't pre-fill the window with your
current route. Cirrus does a nice job of this, and I expected any follow-on
replacement to Cirrus to at least do the same.

So, am I doing something wrong here or is this just a case of "version 1.0"
problems with a new software package?

Another question: I went looking for this upgrade because Cirrus quit
communicating with DUATS on my PC. It used to work fine but when I try to
go to DUATS, the window just hangs with no text display. Is this a problem
others are having? The AOPA flight planner also crashes occasionally and
fails to connect to DUATS, so maybe I have some kind of PC or
router/firewall problem.
