Hi all...

Trying to get a feel of how many airports and where they are located which have
different services, types/lengths of runways etc etc...

Now, I am familiar with Airnav....and its pretty easy to query the database and
get a list based on criteria and distance from the chosen airport....

But what I'd like to see is the bigger picture......say I want to look at the
whole state of Alabama....or maybe even a couple of states....

And then say I require a 2500 foot or longer paved runway and avgas.....

Is there a website where I could get a graphical display that would show the
query results with something like a map of the chosen state/area with say red
dots that show the general locations of airports that meet my requirements?

Anybody know of anything similiar online?

take care

Blll

if you are AOPA member, their airport directory is great for this.
You can click on advance search, and check off the criteria you want
(Rw lenght, restaurant on field, taxi service available, whatever)

Then select radius search, and choose airport and radius.

the results are tabular (not graphic, the way you desire)
but are sorted by radius and bearing from the airport you chose.
(though you can paste into excel and sort anyway you want)

I use it all the time (esp. when looking for that $100 hamburger within x
miles of my home base)

Good luck,
Jonathan

If you are an AOPA member, you can do a fairly extensive search of
airports almost exactly as you described - by state (I think only 1 state
at a time, though) or even better by within nnn miles of an airport
(varying ranges from 25 to 350 miles. You can do runway length, but I
don't think you can search for only paved runways. But there are other
interesting criteria you can choose as well - services (fuel, repair,
rentals, etc.) and attractions (car rental, hotel, restaurants,
lodging)...

But I don't think you can do it without joining.
