I might pop in for awhile on Saturday. I haven't flown since
my plane went in for its annual but I haven't submitted my pork
request because I probably won't go if the weather isn't good
enough to bring my wife.
Any suggested times? Should we bring our own bowling balls?

How do you throw those out of an Aztec?

IF my plane is out of annual, and IF the hotel staffing holds together, and
IF the weather is okay -- we'll be there Saturday from around 1 PM till
supper time.
Are we supposed to bring our own food, or how does that work? It'll be
Mary, my son, and me.

I believe there will be catered stuff, cookouts, etc. I'm bringing
snacks & beer!
How about some more details for us first-timers, Highflyer?

Hope to see you there!

O dear, you need not bring food, nor beer. Last year Nauga (a swell fellow
most often seen in the Homebuilt group) brought an excellent selection of
imported brews to add to the selection in the Beer Fridge in Highflyer's
hangar.
If you don't like clutter or mechanical parts, too bad -- you'll note that the
hangar is proof of the difference between the X and Y chromosomes. It is, to
say the least, primitive...though we cover the tables with plastic ala Church
Basement Dinner to achieve sufficient sterile conditions for eating the
frequent excellent meals.
If you spend a little time flying other people around in your plane and
letting them reciprocate the favor and then visit the aforementioned Beer
Fridge, you'll never notice the clutter (though in past years an airgun's been
made available for bold souls willing to reduce the number of noisy birds
nesting in the rafters).
Highflyer's wife Mary, a delightful woman, was a meatcutter by trade for years,
and the gigantic barbecue wagon produces cooked bits of carnivore food that are
nothing short of exquisite. Upon departure last year I was still threatening to
break into the hangar one last time to revisit any remains of the tenderloin
that might be left. You have not eaten like this at any flyin you've ever
attended.
And for conversation, company and sheer casual time-wasting among one of the
most intelligent groups of people ever to dress like hoboes in Hawaiian shirts,
there is no parallel.
We leave tomorrow soon as I get off work.

Dang -- I won't be able to partake in my favorite beverage, as we will be
required to fly home for the evening. :-(
Does Highflyer or Mary collect anything for the feast?

Sure you will. It just require a bit of planning. You be the PIC on
the trip to PJY and Mary can be PIC on the trip home while you nap in
the backseat :-).
The weater here sucks (thunderstorms). It looks like we'll be
traveling at 0 ft. agl again this year. OTOH, the useful load is over
a ton (lots of beer) and the 260 hp V-8 only burns 4 gph at cruise.

Yeah, the cold front just went through here about 20 minutes ago. Went from
80 to 60 in a few seconds...
Tomorrow is supposed to be good, though. We'll see you there, God willin'
and the creek don't rise...

I was going to send my regards over the unicom from FL330 as I passed
overhead, but a 4 hour ground hold for O'Hare stymied that effort. An hour
and of half of holding over Louisville (at somewhat more than 4 GPH) ended
with a divert to Indianapolis. We parked on a hard-stand (amongst 27 other
diverts) with a full load of pax and lousy air conditioning. The tower
controller was working alone and he was slammed when ORD Approach finally
released us all at the same time. His words to us were, "No flight plan on
file". We finally landed at ORD and one of the 4 brakes overheated. That's
when I was thinking about PJY barbeque (because all the restaurants in the
terminal were closed). Leaving ORD for LAX, we ran along the south side of
that line of storms. It was definitely a powerful display from Mother
nature.
Maybe I'll make it next year.
