Handicap Distance Tasks are a new format for handicapped glider racing.
Many of the problems associated with setting racing tasks for a wide range
of handicaps are overcome by setting tasks with variable sized barrels that
allow each glider, flown equally well, to complete the task in the same
elapsed time.

This format of task has been adopted in the UK by the BGA Competitions
Committee for use in rated competition during 2014 and has been formally
launched in the April / May edition of Sailplane & Gliding Magazine. Full
details of the format can be found on my website:
www.boffins.co.uk/gliding

In order to facilitate the setting of Handicap Distance Tasks and scoring
competitions that use them, some software has been developed that works in
concert with See You Competition. It is intended to make running a club
task week or competition easy to do. You are welcome to try it. It is
free!

The release version (1.2.1.0) is now finished. Until we find some bugs that
must be fixed this will be the version we intend to use in the 2014 season.
This version ships with the 2014 UK turnpoint list and supports all the
requirements of the BGA CC for use in UK Rated Competition in accordance
with the 2014 Rules except that they may yet release an ammended scoring
script.

You can get your free copy of the program from www.boffins.co.uk/gliding
which will install on any Windows XP or Windows 7 PC.

Please, however, take a moment to look at the videos on the site before you
use the programs in order to get an overview of what it does and how it
works. This will save you time experimenting later!

If you have any problems please refer to the help file which you should
find pretty comprehensive but, if you are in a panic or discover a bug,
please email me at the address in the help file.

I hope you enjoy flying Handicap Distance Tasks

Jim, I don't see anywhere in the program that you may enter your glider type. How to you provide a handicap without this info?

The calculator program produces a task sheet for all handicaps that are
flying the task. The scoring software writes the task into the pilots
evidence file using the glider handicap and the barrel size for that
handicap calculated before hand.

The pilot simply has to read off the barrel size he must fly against his
handicap on the task sheet.

If you put a task into the software using a tp file of your choice, and hit
the calc button you will see the output. There is a sample in the help file
and a run through in the videos.

I hope that answers your question

Jim
