Well I just made my reservations for my trip on Monday to Vancouver.
At first Boundrey Bay airport looked like the better option, lower
nightly tiedow fee, no landing fee. However, when you call about
rental cars you find out that one guy has the exclusive rights to
provide cars via Budget and you cannot use any type of discount. He's
charging $60/day!!, $300 for 5 days PLUS TAX (yes I know that
Canadian)!!!
I got a car for 1/3 that price at Vancouver intl, which will more than
cover the higher nightly and landing fee. Also, customs and the FBO at
intl are 24/7 so I don't need to worry about stopping for an late
minute lunch in Oregon or such (not to mention the benefits of an
ILS).

Another option is to take a taxi to an off-airport rental location. The
myriad extra taxes & fees at most major airports can add 25% or more to the
quoted rate vs the same companies off airport location..

Many years ago I went to the Vancouver Worlds fair. Camped out at
Boundary Bay. When I went to the coffee shop I spoke to some pilots
who told me that there was a scheduled bus down the street that
could take me to the Bus depot. From there, I could go anywhere in
Vancouver, Canada via a bus transfer.

I think it was costing me less than $2.50 to go back and forth from the
airport into town and to the Worlds fair. The bus ran from early morning to
late in the day, around 7pm or so every other hour.

When I told a friend about that he said the same thing about spending
many dollars on a rental car.

Always check around and you can save $$$$.
