View Full Version : 296 seeing small airports in 50nm scale

I just pulled by Skymap IIIc out and relaced it with the Garmine 296.
There are certainly things I like better about the large screen IIIc
but I really like the crisp colors of the 296 and the fast update
rate. The turn coordinator seems really good and may work in a real
IMC emergency. In anycase, I just too it on a test flight from
Sacramento to Albuquerque (any excuse to fly right?). One thing I do
not like is that if I set the GPS to the 50nm scale (the one I like on
long trips) I only see large airports. I really like to know where all
the little airports are without having to query the GPS for nearest
(I'm in a single engine Mooney). I have tried but cannot find how to
configure the anticlutter algorithm to not drop airports. Has anyone
else tried this and gotten it to work?

I have a 196, I presume it's the same on the 296:

Go to the Airport tab on the Map setup page, where you can set the zoom
level at which different sized airports appear. They are all set to Auto by
default, you can set them to appear at any of the zoom levels you please.
On the other tabs, you can do the same for all kinds of other map features,
like airspace rings, nav aids, roads, and cities.
