View Full Version : Best time of year to learn in Florida

Hi,

I'm living in the UK, and have been planning to take my PPL for a
couple of years now. The original plan was to take it this October,
but it's a little late for that now, hence I'm now looking at March
next year. Due to time & cost constraints, I'm thinking of going the
US-based intensive course route, most likely Florida.

I was just wondering; before I book my leave, is March a good time of
year to fly in Floria? I get the impression it's probably better than
mid-summer or mid-winter, but just want to check before I commit for
sure...

Thanks!

Feb-April is the best time. Which is also reflected by the highest
prices of the year for hotels... ;-)

Cheers,
Jens

Anytime of year in Florida is better than Fogland. In March, there may be a
few hours of restricted visibility every week and a half as a cold front
passes. Mid-winter is the same. In mid-summer, just plan ground school in
the afternoon and book your flight time in the mornings or at night.

you should contact Perfect Planes about training and what time of year would
be good.

Not true...summer in the UK is much better than "summer" in Florida!
Avoid Florida in June, July, August, September. The rest of the year
should be fine. June can be ok but hot (for an Englander...)!

I prefer March and April in Florida personally.

Christmas in Florida is my favourite time. 6 times in the last eight years.
You meet some great people, mainly Americans from all over the US in for the
holidays and fortunately few Europeans. I can say that as a Brit!

Whenever I think of vacationing or flying in Florida, I am reminded of
the story (true, evidently) of the folks who checked into a motel and
came back to the office complainign there was a funny smell in the
rooom. The owner checked and, sure enough, there was a decomposing
German tourist under the bed.

I think but am not sure that that was in Miami Beach. Nevertheless, it
has long dimmed my enthusiasm for vacationing in the state.

(I did once have a pleasant time in Pensacola, visiting the Naval Air
museum :)
