It was a weird day yesterday (besides the moon turning red from a lunar
eclipse about the same time the Red Sox win the World Series--I'm Yankee fan
BTW).

* I open up AOPA Pilot on the train commute to see Jay and Mary Honeck's
huge picture in an article
* I'm flipping through the Discovery channels and see Vlado Lenoch on
History of Flight teaching formation flying in P-51s (very cool episode BTW)
* Also on the same show, it features the history of a particular P-51
"Cripes A' Mighty" a model of which I have at my desk at work. I picked up
the diecast model at random one day and have had many fleeting thoughts
about if I would ever be able to own one someday and what it would take to
maintain. Now I know.

Probably just a small coincidence or maybe a nod to the Internet's affect on
our daily lives.

Dang -- I would love to see that. Was it on "regular" Discovery, or
"Discovery Wings"? Do you know if it will be re-broadcast?

We, as pilots, are more connected than ever before, thanks to Usenet and the
internet. I always feel somewhat sad for the many pilots I know who have
NEVER ventured onto the aviation newsgroups, and have missed out on such a
huge part of the aviation world.

Where else but here can we meet so many pilots, from all over the world, who
share our passion and love of aviation?

I agree with you whole-heartedly Jay. When I get together with my pilot
friends, we can literally talk for hours about flying because we're all
certified nuts. I keep telling them about rec.aviation but none of them have
ventured into the groups yet. Whenever I get asked "Where did you learn
about that??" I surprise myself when often the answer is "from the
newsgroups!"

About that show, I made a mistake. It's call "History Takes Flight" and it's
on Discovery Wings. Do you get Wings? The next scheduled airtimes are Nov
26, 6PM ET, Nov 27, 2AM, and Nov 27, 10AM. They also have a clip of an Old
Rhinebeck biplane's tail camera view during a real (as in NOT simulated)
engine-out crash right after take-off. The guy walked away.

I'll try to tape it if you won't be able to yourself. If I remember that is.

Nope, we don't get Wings.

But our friends do. It only costs us a 6-pack to watch it at their house!
