I've always wondered if this was possible. These look like proof-positive
pics (they don't look like fakes).

Apologies if this was posted before (didn't show up on a Google search
however).

I based at Rand in the early-mid 70's and often ate at the terminal
cafe while watching aircraft operating. If I hadn't seen the pics, I
would never have imagined such a large aircraft touching down there!
I'm still amazed it didn't punch through the asphalt or leave huge
divots in the grass!! True, it was summer and the ground is brick hard
but still, at that all up weight??? The largest I ever saw operate at
Rand was a DC-3.
I flew for Avex Air and Astra Helicopters back then.

Marco
Aftert doing some checking with friends over there, it turns out the
pilot was a guy I flew with before he went to SoAfrican Airways (SAA).
We were both crop duster pilots working out of Rand airport in about
'74-'75. How interesting and what a great job of flying!!
