OK Roger, we need details here. Obviously, you made someone's day. Who
is your new copilot? Great picture!

That's my youngest son. His older brother went up last summer. It's
been a long time coming because their mother hates everything about
aviation and is scared to death of it. I've been flying since 1997
and she has never even seen the airplane!

Boy, hearing that makes me realize just how lucky I am.
Yesterday I took my 6 1/2 year old up.
She can do 360 degree steep turns almost by herself (she still doesn't pull
back enough).
Today, the wife, my 6 1/2, 4, and 1 1/2 year old, and I went on a short
cross country.
Everyone had a great time, except on the way back, the little one needed a
nap, and was fighting it.
It's a lot easier to fly when the better half is on board ;-)

Anyway, congratulations getting your sons flying! By the look on his face,
I'm sure he had a great time!

I just landed 2 hrs ago, With a dad & his 6yr old son.

Dad's 2nd, son's first. ( in a light plane, both flown
commercial before)

Took off before sunset found their house and son's school,
flew to a ski hill all lit up for night sking, back over the city
lights at dark, squeeked the night landing....

Whatta treat to live in a country(Canada) where we can do
this, making memoriable experiences for ourselves and others!

I'm really not sure WHO had the most fun.. :)

One thing that stands out to me, right after the open bug-catcher, is
that easy relaxed grip on the yoke. I've got a hunch there will be
competition for the right seat from now on.

Roger, can you explain the "baldeagle" in that URL?

The reason I ask: Bald Eagle mountain is just a few miles from here,
in central PA, just north of UNV; it was named, we're told, after an
indian chief Bald Eagle.

Is there a similar story behid your baldeagle?

Thanks. vince norris

Cool pic, Roger.

I've taken about half a dozen kids flying - all friend's kids. Most for
their first small plane ride - one or two for their first EVER plane ride.

I love doing it - kids are the only non-pilots who get as excited about
just flying as pilots do!

Besides, if we hook them young, they might show up for their license in a
few years... :)

We are the oldest flying club in Maine so a lot of our early history
is lost in the mists of time. There was also a tragic fire at the
secretary's house about twenty years ago that destroyed all records up
until that point.

We thought we were called the Bald Eagles Flying Club when I joined in
1999 and figured the first members must have been a bunch of bald
pilots. We thought about changing the name thinking it might be a
barrier to female members and then learned that it is actually the
Bald Eagle Flying Club after the bird, not the hair loss. What a
difference an "s" makes.

We retrieved the copies of our original incorporation papers from the
secretary of state recently to check our exact status and were
surprised to discover that we were founded by three non-pilots with
Italian names for the purposes of promoting aviation interest among
young people and providing support to the Civil Air Patrol (don't get
me started on how ironic that is). Evidently, the idea of buying a
plane and becoming a flying club popped up shortly afterwards.

A member recently resigned who actually joined two years after the
founding. We never could get him to tell us much about the early
history except that, everything used to be better before we wasted all
this money worrying about FAA Mickey Mouse paperwork, weren't ruining
our engine by preheating it in cold weather so all the oil drained off
the camshaft, it's not the club's business whether you medical is
current, etc., etc.

A shame you can't get this guy to tell you much. He sounds like the
type that's going to have the best stories. (Maybe he's waiting for
the statute of limitations? <g>)

Sounds like the type that makes most of the best stories...

Well said, and like many here, I remember my first airplane flights
with great fondness.

Take a look at the Young Eagles program
http://www.eaa.org/youngeagles/

I've given over 50 kids rides over the years and enjoyed every one.

Airplane cost: $40
Time: 30 min
Impact:* Priceless

* On the young person, the parents, and yourself.
