View Full Version : Wurtsboro Fun Meet is this weekend!

April 29th 14, 07:56 PM
Come on out folks and enjoy the great soaring Wurtsboro has to offer! Tasks will be set that are interesting and challenging to all pilots and gliders.. Sailplanes from the GAPA PW2 to 1-26s to the Duckhawk will be represented! Tentatively, the weather looks promising, with potentially some ridge on Sunday. A BBQ is planned on Saturday. Come and fly in the magical Wurtsboro air!

Best Regards,
Daniel

Tony, I translated your message as suggested by Google Groups.
Apparently you write in Irish :-)
(Looks the same to me.)

Sunday is definitely shaping up to being a solid ridge day and interestingly enough maybe one that only works at Wurtsboro. The optimal wind direction for WB is 300 degrees and it is predicted at 290. Only the ridges very deep in PA favor such a Westerly direction. Anyone in CT, NJ, Southern NY and Northeast PA, come on out and fly!

Daniel

Hello everyone,

The weekend of our Schweizer 1-26 and Sports Class Fun Meet is here!

And we have big news: Wurtsboro Airport now owns a Schweizer 1-26! It will be available for rental to our customers very soon and you can see it flying with the others this weekend!

For those of you with a 1-26 or other glider of your own - its not too late to join the excitement! Saturday looks like it will be a great thermal day (tops forecast over 6000') with calm SW winds. Strong WNW winds on Sunday should be great for the Wurtsboro ridge! (maybe too westerly for you Blairstown pilots - come on up!)

We will have a pilots meeting both days at 11:00AM in the airport office. Daniel Sazhin has been working hard to make some great tasks for us to fly. Tasks will be newbie-friendly with plenty of room to challenge the higher performance ships and pilots. A PW-2 has already arrived on the field and the Duckhawk should be here tomorrow. So if your glider has performance anywhere between a PW-2 and Duckhawk - this contest is perfect for you!

Pilots will need the standard Wurtsboro turnpoints and we will be using some of the special Wurtsboro Turnpoints (contact me if you need this)

Please contact me with any questions. Hope to see you this weekend!

Saturday turned out to be a dud unfortunately... overdeveloped into and overcast that shut down the thermal activity.

At dinner last night Daniel called for 9:00 grid and 9:30 pilots meeting. We launched the Duckhawk, Speed Astir, SZD-55 and ASK-21 shortly thereafter. High winds, but seems not as westerly as we feared and the ridge is working.

You can follow the Duckhawk and Speed Astir on the SSA tracker:
