One of the best Soaring covers I have seen ... I'm thinking the camera had to be extended forward off the wing - but it looks out pretty far ... would be interesting to see the camera/rig ... or could it be a formation flight - hard to believe. In any case, great shot by Jim Murray. kk

One rumor has it he's tamed and trained an eagle as a photographer.

It has to be a wing mounted boom. It is a very wide angle. I would guess about 17mm equivalent. Objects are closer than they appear. If it was a telephoto lens from formation flight you wouldn't have the panoramic background. To get the horizon to come out level like that, the camera has to be set before flight for that particular bank angle. This requires trial and error from previous flights. Magazine covers unfortunately require some cropping in the long dimension. Very nice perspective. Worthy of a full centerspread or calendar page.
Nice work Jim!

I heard he had an out-of-body experience on this particular evening and shot it himself.
