Three cheers. The "US club class" section of the ongoing sports nationals has 17 pilots flying.
Two (silent, apis) are below the usual club limit, which makes a bit of a case for allowing such gliders in club class in the future. Three more (2 x 304 flying in 17 meter, and 1 x genesis II) could have flown club, but chose to go modern.
A separate standalone US club contest, located away from sports, is in the works, and this is a great sign of its viability.
But what happened to modern class? Sports used to be the most popular contest in the country with 50+ pilots. And there are no nationals on the East coast this summer. Yet only 12 pilots?
