UHHH-OOOOHHHHH! Looks like the yENC wars to break out again for the first
time in about 10 years!

Rants to start in 5... 4... 3... 2...

(Leslie - The news client you are using with your iPad cannot, will not
handle photos encoded with y-Encoding) Wait 'til you get home and use
something else to view the pix) (and thanks for the smile you gave me!)

It could be that you are looking at multi part messages. That would be
indicated in the message headers by (1/n), (2/n) etc. where n is the number
of parts.

To combine the parts select all the parts, and right click and choose the
option "recombine attachments".

Indrek, I agree wholeheartedly. Thanks.

However, I haven't seen many multi's in here in a while. Else I'd have
mentioned that to Leslie. There are however many yEnc/non-yEnc pix. Most of
the news-clients/readers can finally handle yEnc compression. The "new kids
on the block" are now these "apps" for the handheld pooters. Probabilities
arise.

Just for fun, I reloaded all posts since April. With the exception of one by
Orval and one from Andrew, the remaining multi's (about 16 or 17) were posted
by some guy named Indrek (Big Grin)

True enough. :)

My D-7000 produces large files that I compress using IrfanView. For some
reason the last few batches came out in the 400 to 800 kb range instead of
the 300kb that I usually aim for. The power post settings that I used seemed
to to max out at about 700kb per file so it broke the larger images into two
parts. I'll try to increase the compression in IrfanView for future posts. I
have several batches of pictures taken at Waddington ready for posting so I
am hoping to avoid large multi part files.

Cheers,

Strange, I use Unison on my Mac and NewsTap on my iPad and I have no
issue with viewing yENC coded images.

However, I haven't posted any binaries with NewsTap, and those I post
with Unison are not yENC encoded. There is one strange thing with
Unison, if you upload/post a folder of files it will default to yENC
with no other options. So to maintain the peaceful equilibrium of the
binary NGs I don't batch post.

Just to make absolutely sure - I am NOT complaining about your posts.
They are great and keep 'em coming! Multi's, yEnc/Non yEnc - I don't mind!
(from a non-posting 20-year lurker no less)

I DID post one set back in about 2002. It was a ID quiz for the group of an
MD220. The first(?) 4-mill biz-jet. Maybe one or two copies built. Took the
pics after flying into Phoenix. Took the experts in here about 3.01 seconds
to ID. - I know my place now.

Good Gawd, I remember that post. I have no idea who that ugly mutt
was in the mirror this morning, but I remember that specific thread.
