"According to federal aviation records, the one that went down near Midway was manufactured 50 years ago in 1964.

Other Twin Commanders owned and operated by Central Airways have crashed prior to Tuesday's accident at Midway. A plane crashed in 2010 at Don Scott Airport in Columbus, Ohio, the same airport that Howlett's plane was trying to get to. The pilot survived. Another crashed in 2008 at downtown Wheeler Airport in Kansas City, killing two, and again that same year near Tulsa International Airport in Oklahoma, also killing two. "

Partly to blame are the people who insist on building suburbs around
airports. They weren't there when the airport opened. As usual, I expect
this fact will be overlooked when people cite the accident as a reason
the airport should be closed.

Only the Koch bros. can afford to buy up all the houses within Chicago city limits

Pilots always mention this, but I remind them how well that argument
worked for the Native Americans. Might makes Right.

Their ancestors the first immigrants.

Anyway the point is the tiny minority exists at the pleasure and
tolerance of the overwhelming majority. In our case, General Aviation at
the tolerance of the vast non-flying public. Fly lightly.

That's quite possibly not true either. There were at least several waves
of immigration.
