The Greenland P-38 was Glacier Girl. had the luck
of living within driving distance to the restoration shop
for her and was able to vist several times during the rebuild..
& present at first engine start and first flight..

I was just curious..why would they spend the time, money and effort to
recover and restore that P-38..only to put in on display outside in
the weather, instead of a inside a weather proff building?

I hope after all the time, money and effort they took to restore that
P-38, they just didn't put it on display outside...rather then inside
a hanger or building out of the elements and away from vandels

IIRC:
Its only a cosmetic restoration, never meant to fly since the damage and
corrosion was so extensive. and I really don,t think any vandals are going
to get at it much, since its on a active US air base. Elmendorf AFB, AK.
