View Full Version : Cambridge GPS-NAV Navpoints File

I am trying to create a Restricted Area Navpoint with an "R" Attribute, ceiling altitude, and radius so my GPS-NAV can alert me if I invade that space.. The old MS-DOS software allowed creation of such a Navpoint but the subsequent Aero Explorer does not. The .dat file structure appears to be:
ID #,Latitude,Longitude,Elevation,Attributes,Name,Tex t
Presumably ceiling altitude and radius would follow additional commas, but in what order or where in the line?

Can't answer your question other than to tell what I do. I load the restricted areas as a turn-point, like RRR Reno with a note "avoid by 12 s/m". The RRR tells me it is a restricted area, not a turn-point and I monitor the area as I pass by. This has saved me several times. I remember once when the "get-home-thermal" was .5 miles outside the restricted area and the thermal was drifting towards the restricted area, by monitoring the distance, I was able to work the thermal up to get-home altitude!
Gp Patriots!
