IIRC: the Lightning was known for not having a good
heater for the pilot.

The cabin heating was a problem for high altitude operations, but it
was mostly sorted out by the time the P-38J & P-38L variants came into
service. The one in the image looks to be a "J".
In the SW-Pacific, Phillipines, & Okinawa they had just the opposite
problem, there it was like sitting in a greenhouse and most pilots flew
without jackets, many just wore a T-shirt + Mae West.
