View Full Version : Running Cambridge GPS-NAV DOS Program on Windows

February 16th 15, 02:43 AM
For those who want to use the Cambridge DOS program to enable the GPS-NAV's ability to alert entry into a Restricted Area (e.g. Class B), DosBox (which is loaded by the front-end "D-Fend Reloaded") will do so on a Windows 8.1 64-bit system as follows:
Install Serial Card (USB-Serial adapters may not work).
Use Windows "Device Manager" to set serial port to COM2 (or 1,3,4).
Install and open "D-Fend Reloaded", which includes DosBox.
> Extras > Open games folder and copy DOS "program folder" to D-Fend Reloaded "Virtual HD folder".
> Add > "Add with wizard" and proceed.
"Program to be started": DOS "program folder"/ GPS.BAT
"Setup program": DOS "program folder"/ GPSINST.BAT
Uncheck "Start in fullscreen mode" (looks/works bad)
"Name for the program" GPS (or some such)
> Edit > Serial port 2 > Direct serial > Real port: COM2
Right click GPS / "Run setup"
Run "GPS"
