View Full Version : Winter soaring "escape plan" locations?

If you were based in NYC, and wanted to leave a small RV and a DG-400 somewhere warm for the winter, traveling to it for a long weekend once each month, with wife and kindergartener in tow, where would that be? Seminole Lake is an obvious choice, but are there other soaring locations that are easy to fly into from NYC and have things to offer besides Disney for the family? Wife has an aversion to Florida which I'm trying to overcome, but meanwhile, other ideas?

I think the "long weekend" pretty much limits you to something within a few hours by air carrier, no? There's more to the area around Seminole Lake than Disney. I was pretty impressed with a walk I did at Lake Louisa a few years ago.

That's what we're thinking -- somewhere a few hours away by air carrier, so we don't spend half the time just getting there -- this rules out the Left Coast. Good to hear about Lake Louisa, I'll look into that. Maybe the topic should actually be: What else is there to do in the Clearmont area, besides visit Disney?
I personally don't need to look any farther than Seminole Lake, but thought the question worth exploring. We like Houston, so flying there occurred as a possibility....

Soooo..... I guess this winter in the NY Metro area is getting to you or family? ;-)
If you would do Houston (no issues here....), what about Phoenix with sites not too far from there? Both can be done from most NYC area airports as "directs" depending on carrier.
See you in a few weeks for the annual meeting?
Hope all is well.
Hope you like the "shine"..... ;-)
