The sit down, nose up take off was because the elevators did not have enough
authority to quickly rotate the nose to maximum lift angle of attack. That
means without the nose up to start, it would hit the water before a correct
climb attitude could be achieved. The F4 needed a boast nose strut to do
the same thing.

Did they figure that out the hard way with the Scimitar?
