Three column inches on page 11 of today's Houston Chronicle (and below
the fold).

They sure know how to highlight the important things :o(

I like the "Feather oscillations were actively damped by the pilot" statement. Ride 'em cowboy!

Even better, note this paragraph from the test report
(http://www.scaled.com/projects/tierone/New_Index/flight_data/flt_data.htm):

"During a portion of the boost, the flight director display was
inoperative, however the pilot continued the planned trajectory
referencing the external horizon. "

VFR to the edge of space! Whoo hoo!

Brings a new meaning to "VFR on top" doesn't it?

Yep, there can't be that many people that request to enter Class A from on
top of it.

Reminds me of a SR-71 story I downloaded a while back.
A Blackbird flying high over the USA requested from LA control clearance to
FL 600 and the controller admonished him asking how he expected to get up
to FL 600 and the Habu pilot replied he didn't he wanted to decend to
there, he was cleared!

There is also info at www.space.com. If there is nothing on the main
page, try the technology or news sections.

I heard it was a U-2... went something like this (names are generic
representations):

U-2: "XXX approach, Dragon 1-1 requesting clearance for FL580"

Approach: "Umm, sure... Dragon 1-1 cleared for FL580... if you think
you can go that high."

U-2: "Roger... Dragon 1-1 leaving FL720 for FL580."

Approach: "Holy ****, you're descending?!"
