Hello,

There's a basic question for you all. I noticed that while taking off,
with calm winds, the airplane always tend to go on left side off the
runway. Calibrated the joystick many times, same thing. I was
wondering if this is just the joystick that is not calibrated
correctly, or does it happens in a real airplane?

I think a read somewhere that this happens because of the rotation of
the propeller. Is it true? Thanks!

One of the causes of left turning tendencies in single engine planes
is torque. The slower the speed and the greater the power the more
pronounced the effect. At take off you have very high power and very
low speed so you get a lot of left turn. This is also a problem in
power on stalls.

The rotating prop wash curls back round the fuselage of the aircraft and
strikes the tail plane. This pushes the tail to the right, which makes the aircraft
turn to the left. Thats why you keep right rudder pressure on during take off.

P-factor, slipstream and torque, pulls to the left while ascending, mostly
at low speed and high power.

Pulls to the right while descending at low power setting.

Reminds me of the tale about a sports reporter interviewing a golf pro, and
he commented - "boy, you sure were lucky with that shot you made on the last
hole" - to which the golfer replied - "yep, seems like the more I practice,
the luckier I get!"........... (:->))
