Hi all...need your veteran fs opinion. Building a pc for my Dad. Basically
just a surfing and emailing machine. He likes some casino games so this is
what the rig is built for.

I was thinking of loading fs 2000 as a little bonus. I need to know if it
will run ok on the system.

AMD XP 2500 (1.83G)
512mb pc 3200 ram
ATI 9000 radeon 64mb

the gfx card is low end but I am hoping this sim might run fine on this
machine? Any info would be appreciated.

Also...can it be controlled by keyboard? I have a thrustmaster stick here
but the drivers were always finicky.

Thanks in advance...

DC

Do not install FS2000. If you must use an older version of MSFS, use FS2002
or FS98.

FS2000 will run "okay" on the system you've specified, but it won't run
nearly as well as other versions of MSFS.

You can certainly fly in MSFS with just the keyboard. However, it's not all
that satisfying an experience, IMHO. It was fine back in the early 80's
when joysticks for the IBM-compatible PC were uncommon and expensive. But
these days, if you have a joystick that doesn't work, the solution is to buy
one that does. Using a keyboard is just no fun.

Looks like a good configuration, probably can run FS2004 with no problem!

even with the video card..that was my only concern. I was on a "tight"
budget..thanks for the quick replies.

Yes that's a pretty good video card.

Yes but don't touch fs2000 with a bargepole. It was a real dog and ran slowly
on almost every computer.

think that budget video card could handle 2002?

Sure. You won't be able to run at full quality settings, but it'll look
nice. It'll run a lot better on that card than FS2000 would.
