Seabreeze Soaring in MD, DE, and NJ

Howdy All,

Does anyone have any experience or know anything about any seabreeze convergence soaring that has been accomplished off the DE Bay, Chesapeake Bay, or the NJ Coast? I have seen it develop and have played with it locally, but have their been any bigger flights utilizing it?

I have been doing some research, and now that I have access to a motorglider I'd like to explore it a lot more. The 1972 edition of SSA's "Soaring Meteorology for Forecasters" describes some flights out of Wallops Island, VA, and I know that there are some clubs in that area that still play around with it, but have there been any flights that have originated further North?

I hope that those who are not affected by the Holy TFR are able to enjoy the fall weather this weekend!

Long Island soaring club gets to fly seabreeze convergences occassionally. Also the big hang glider towing operations in FL, Wallaby Ranch is one, can't remember the other names fly a convergence often. Either I don't see it or it doesn't happen very often on and near Cape Cod. The FL hangies probably go the farthest using convergence.

I am researching the same with a view to exploring it along the central NJ coast with a motorglider too. Can you PM at milnerdvatyahoodotcom and we can compare notes and ideas.

I had a really nice one along Lake Erie on 7/4/14 during the Canadian
Nationals. 92km in one hour, including stopping for a couple of 10kt
thermals! Pretty good for an old ASW-19 with no ballast!

I have personally flown convergence out of Wallaby in a Hang Glider for 80 miles. Florida is perfect for doing it. I also have flown in some broken convergence in NH again with a hang glider.
