On Scott Richmond's third flight in his newly purchased ASW-24E, at about
500ft, the motor stalled. He had already turned 90 degrees to the right, he
turned another 90 towards the airport, did several PIOs, maybe pulling on
the manual starter cable, then stalled and spun into an orchard 600 yards or
so from the end of the airport. He died on impact. If he had impacted the
trees wings level, he probably would have survived. I was his primary
instructor and very good friend.
