Agreed, the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan helped to save a lot of
Allied lives.

They also saved Japanese lives in a nation with a population heading
toward a national suicide. Ultimately they paved the way to a new Japan.

The atomic bombs were one variable in the formula that brought the
Japanese war to an end. IMHO, the Russian's invading Manchuria with a
million men was far more convincing for the Japanese.
