View Full Version : 1-26 1000K Attempt In Progress

Ron Schwartz got off tow a little before 7 a.m. after a launch from Blairstown. He has a declared 1000K 3 turnpoint in the box. While the synoptic picture isn't classic, it seems to be working. Local winds picked up shortly after sunrise and reporting stations along the route are currently starting to swing around to the northwest. Karl Striedieck reports solid winds at Eagle Field, which is about the midpoint of the task area. Ron buys some time by getting his first lap in on the local ridge before heading south across the Susquehanna and Potomac rivers later in the day. If you listen carefully, you can hear the oil canning even now...

After 2 hours Ron has about 100 miles in the bag. Looks like the winds are coming around throughout central and eastern PA. He will be close to 200 miles before the first big transition. You can watch his progress on the SSA Sailplane Tracker. Next update late morning.
Go get it Ron!!!

At 10:30, the surface winds at University Park airport are reported as 350 degrees and 10 kts. Here at Ridge Soaring Gliderport, the winds are very light. Pilots are waiting.

So, 5 hours later and Ron has about 240 miles under his belt. He's about to jump on Mahantango Mountain for the quick run down to the Susquehanna, then across and on to Tuscarora. The single toughest early transition is complete, but I'd guess he's a good 45 minutes behind schedule. The long run on Tuscarora should add about 5mph or more to the average. As long as he has better than 55mph by the time he gets to the Potomac, there's a chance. Now back to work...

And I thought it was an earthquake that woke me up.
What are the turnpoints? Not a double Burnt Cabins O/R?
Looks like Ron turned back on Mahantango at the Susquehanna. No tracks on Tuscarora yet.
May the Schwartz be with you...

That's better, but when I try to log into the site I get:

On my Windows PC with Chrome, it was fine.
On my iPad with Safari, I had to do another step since it wouldn't run in a window.
Can't answer your issue. Sorry.
