Vario installation question

When installing two varios that both require a 0.45L bottle, how is this plumbed? There's lots of info online about splitting a tube from the TE probe (moving the T connector back as far as possible) but nothing on if and how two varios can share a bottle. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think they can share a bottle. Each would only get half the airflow and therefor not read properly

You could plumb the varios in series, but then any internal resistance impacts the response of the other vario. Not ideal, but it would function correctly.

Parallel could work, but only if you use a 0.9L flask.

If you are committed to using 2 mechanicals, then the optimum arrangement would be a T and then each vario has it's own 0.45L flask.

Thanks. I was wondering about the possible logic of using a 0.9L flask but I guess it is easiest to just use a second 0.45L. I have a couple of extra flasks so not a problem. And, it's not two mechanicals, it's a Winter mechanical and an LX-100 in a friend's ASW-19. We pulled out his silent Cambridge Mk IV and broken PZL.

You may want to consider plumbing the LX-100 with electronic compensation. That way if the TE gets damaged/obstructed you have an independent backup system.

Well, no sharing is best, but sharing is possible when there just isn't room without having the bottles require feet of plumbing to get to the vario. In my BS1, I have a Winter in series with my L-Nav. Knowing that internal volume of the Winter could have an impact on the reading of the L-Nav, I set my system up to be Bottle to L-Nav to Winter to TE probe. Yes, the winter acts as a bit of a gust filter on the L-Nav, but the L-Nav is still very responsive.

I guess that slowness and sharing of a bottle is why I haven't ever won a Nationals with my BS1. Oh, wait. I haven't ever taken it to a Nationals.

And, yes, Dave. I like to make you cringe with plumbing setups like this. Want to see my FLARM antenna setup? Hee hee.

Of course the cool part of that statement is "my BS-1" {of 2}. :)
