The SSA Region 1 contest is being held this past weekend and next weekend. The practice day was Friday. The weather all 3 days was perfect with temps in the 80s, dry air, light winds and high cloudbases!
See the results at http://www.ssa.org/Contests?cid=2346&display=results

Weather forecast also looks great for next weekend! Could this be the best contest ever (well, for New England)?

Yeah, it looked good. Glad to see a K21 win the day, although the main pilot is a "ringer" :-)

It's so great to see a Region 1 contest again. Thanks to all those who helped bring it together.

And Day 1 was won in a PW6. Flown by Evan Ludeman.

As one of the participants (and first time flying VT)- I can say that it is a really well run contest - right up there with the best. and the team running it is extremely professional with a upbeat very nice group of volunteers.

VT & Region 1 really is making pilots feel welcomed and well taken cared of.

Excellent contest!

I flew backseat with Evan. An awesome experience!

I blame this thread for Day 3 being canceled due to weather...

One rainy day ain't bad. What irks me is the persistent high W-NW winds aloft predicted for the next three days. 35 knots near cloudbase for Day 4, diminishing to 25 knots for days 5 and 6. It's going to be tough to fly upwind. If they'd only tow us up into the wave...

The 2016 Region 1 Championships at Springfield VT ended Monday with Juan Mandelbaum (Z8) taking the overall Championship winning the Shapiro Trophy, and the award for Best Pilot on both first and second weekends. John Hansman (XA) finished very strong including a decisive 1000 point victory on the last day to finish in second place overall. Many other "first contest" pilots did well in a very competitive race (less than 18 points separated positions 2 and 4 and there was a dead tie for 6th place). All results are at the SSA site:

http://www.ssa.org/ContestResults.asp?contestId=2346&ContestDetailId=11834&ContestName=Region+1+Contest&ContestDate=7/4/2016&ResultsUpdate=True

It was a very successful contest with great weather on 4 contest days (only one of which was slightly devalued) and ended with no incidents or accidents of any type.
