View Full Version : Tow plane airspeed vs. glider being towed airspeed?

Asked a question I could not answer yesterday.....

Why does the towplane indicated airspeed always indicate so much higher than
the glider behind? As much as 10 knots. Consistent with the Pipers, Cessnas and
Grummans.

And yes, compensated for kts. vs. mph.

I presume the pitot tube is nowhere near the tow hook of the glider?,

I take it that the tug IS in knots and not MPH as our cub is, and most US
aircraft.
