Yes, I am shocked to see the following decision. "Contest organizers cannot mandate Flarm mode used by individual pilots"

I really liked that in Perry last year we had no "stealth mode" rule, especially since the contest was fully subscribed as always. You are throwing away advances of Flarm. This was discussed already at length last year. I am not looking to debate this again, just voicing my displeasure.

Idiocy.

This is really, really sad (embarrasing) but the saddest part is that we all knew it was coming. These folks simply cannot resist the voices in their heads.

This "disucssion" is like watching a Salem witch hunt trial. Flarm is the witch and the RC is setting up the burning pit and dunking the witch asking for a confession.

They really burned countless witches to death. But there were never any witches at all. So is Flarm leeching.

FACT: Stealth mode DRAMATICALLY reduces PowerFlarm's basic element, situational awareness, by DRAMATICALLY reducing the range to only 2km (or 1.2 miles). This is akin to turning the headlights off for oncoming traffic on a dark desert highway until very close, maybe.

So for two gliders coming head-on quickly, this gives them maybe 10 seconds, if Flarm is working perfectly for BOTH gliders (never the case).

What word best defines the opposite of genius? It fits this one perfectly. Slow clap for you here ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAryFIuRxmQ

Eventually, this one is going to bite you guys. 2 flarm equiped gliders, one or both in Stealth, are going to get killed.

I say, NO SAFETY COMPROMISE, ever. The "fake news" of flarm leeching has gone too far now. This is a ridiculous, pointless decision driven by fantasy and/or delusion.

I would like the minutes to capture who voted how.

Oh goodie.

Hey Sean: you there with the claimed 1600 SAT score, do us all a favor and study up at https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/. Pay special attention to ad hominem, straw man and personal incredulity. If you can master just those three, your posts here will collapse to 1/8 their current length (or less :-)). You'll save time, and so will we.

My $0.02: Good for the RC for not sticking us with another not-very-enforceable rule.

best,
Evan Ludeman / T8

"DISCUSSION OF 4:
Secret handshakes were exchanged with the new members. No further conspiracies were discussed."

Oh no! You guys forgot: "the first rule of RC is: you don't talk about the secret handshake. The second rule of RC is: you don't talk about the conspiracies!"

Nope.

John you are incorrect once again.

The first rule for the racing committee is "Nobody has any fun."

The 2nd rule is "To eliminate racing from soaring as much as possible by not following FAI rules by creating cockamamie rules that will ultimately lower participation."

Wilbur/Sean:

For once, you are half right. Indeed, the Rules Committee does not have any fun. And behavior like yours is a large part of the reason. Notice how many resignations there have been from rules committee and ssa contest committee lately -- quite a few not even finishing their terms? This kind of behavior is a large reason why.

On what topic?
Most items are determined by consensus. In the event of a decision that can't be resolved that way, a vote may occur and dissenting members can, and sometimes do, ask that their position be recorded.

"Contest organizers cannot mandate Flarm mode used by individual pilots"

This issue could be solved easily by merely adding "in stealth" between Flarm and mode.

If I am in a contest and someone is flying stealth mode on their Flarm, I expect we will have a serious discussion about that. I believe stealth mode should be banned in the US.

Just curious why on that same page in the manual the developers have included the statement "It is recommended NOT to activate stealth mode" if it truly does not affect safety. The emphasis on NOT is verbatim.

I also understood that safety was affected with stealth mode. If,as Evan states, that is not correct, I'll stand down.

My intent was to offer an easy solution, not to harass the RC. I fully understand, and greatly appreciate, all the volunteer work that goes into the process.
