Anyone know where I can get the last update availible
for the Garmin 90? Garmin has seen fit not to provide
these anymore on their website or otherwise and I would
like to keep my $600 GPS for a few more years? Thanks

Cliff:

Garmin is discontinuing support for the Garmin 90 and will
no longer be providing periodic database updates.

As a last hurrah, they are giving away a free last chance
database update. I did mine a month or so ago. The procedure
is a bit confusing but you could probably fumble your way
through like me and make the 90 good for a bit longer. I do
not have mine in from of me but I believe that the last
database update was dated June 2003.

I tried this with my Garmin 90 and got a far as downloading the database and
connecting my PC to the GPS90 but the install procedure demanded a "update
code" which, of course, I didn't have. I can't find any way to get an
update code. I've e-mailed the support people at Garmin but no response
yet.

Can you help, Pete?

Thanks Pete I started the process and then realized
that you have to be on the computer that your 90 is
connected to, it also seems that you will have to get
a update code from them by e-mail sent to the same
computer. Ill try it tonight and let you all know thanks
again at least a couple of years more!

I was able to do it without a problem, just by following the
instructions. After running the downloaded update program (with the
GPS90 connected, of course) and getting my unit code, I pasted the
unit code into the requested spot. Continuing from there, the website
came back with the required info, allowing the update program to
continue.

Eric, that's exactly what I did but when I tried to continue after pasting
the unit code it asked for the update code.

I ran it from the top again and it still wants an unlock code.

Bill, I just finished doing mine and right after you
putin the unit ID on the web page and continue, garmin
then put through the web page that has Password, unlock
code and order #, they also sent a e-mail to the address
email I put in at the beginnining. But don't continue
with the program for you GPS until you have the unlock
code! Hope this helps.

I also got the email with the password and unlock code, but I didn't
need it by the time I got it. Give it another try. I did have to enter
name, address, etc (but not charge card) info, as if I was going to
buy it, but the price was $0.00. A good price, but it does mean no
more updates. I suppose people simply weren't buying them anymore. I
use mine only as a backup to my PDA and flight recorder, which means
hardly ever.

OK, I made it work. There was some interference from the Earthlink POPUP
stopper. Suspending that let me get the unlock code.

Thanks, everybody.

I had an update for my GPS 90 in April but I don't suppose that you
would be able to do anything with the file if I sent it to you would
you?
